National Standards for Mental Health Services

We published the Quality Framework for Mental Health Services in 2007. The framework sets out the themes, standards and criteria that all mental health services in Ireland should meet.

It provide clear guidance for service users, their families/chosen advocates, service providers and the public as to what they can expect from a mental health service. It applies to all mental health services including services for children and adolescents, adults, older persons, persons with an intellectual disability and a mental illness and forensic mental health services. It also applies irrespective of whether services are being delivered within the service user's home, community settings or within in-patient facilities.

A summary of the framework is provided below. For more detailed information, please visit the National Standards for Mental Health Services page in the Health Professionals section of our website.
