Rules

Section 59(2) of the Mental Health Act 2001 states that "The Commission shall make rules providing for the use of electro-convulsive therapy and a programme of electro-convulsive therapy shall not be administered to a patient except in accordance with such rules."

Section 69(2) of the Mental Health Act 2001 states that "The Commission shall make rules providing for the use of seclusion and mechanical means of bodily restraint on a patient."

We have issued the following rules with subsequent revisions since the full enactment of the 2001 Act on 1st November 2006:
